Parenting Tips From Casey Anthony

I have been somewhat of an addict when it comes to the Casey Anthony trial.  I have not had time to watch it during the day, but I typically watch Nancy Grace right before I hit the sack so I catch up on the three ring circus.  The past couple of days while Jodie and I were watching the drama unfold, I was reminded that every parent must teach their kids to…

STEP INTO THE PAIN

(or she is crazy)

This whole ordeal would have been over 3 years ago if Casey would have been taught to step into the pain and tell the truth regardless of the consequence.  As parents, we must teach our kids this character quality.

For years my kids have thought that one of the most admirable character qualities in life is to stay out of trouble no matter what the cost.  They would fudge the truth, avoid mom and dad, hide stolen pacifiers under their pillow and hide goldfish in their sleeping bag so they can have a midnight snack.

I believe that parents must take the time to teach their kids to choose the pain of character and honesty over the pain of consequences, teach your kids to choose the pain of coming clean over the pain of hiding and teach your to choose the pain of  honesty over the pain of dishonesty.

The reality is that the only way this lesson will be learned is if parents take the time to teach this concept, reinforce this concept and take advantage of every teachable moment that comes your way.  Parents, you can teach your kids to step into the pain, however, you must make a bold and unwavering commitment to deposit this value deep into your kids heart, soul and mind.

Have your kids struggled with lying?  Would love to hear your story?
