Since I launched EpicParent I have spent countless hours on the internet consuming all the parenting information I can possibly find. I love and am amused at all the varying parenting techniques that have been created over the past decade, here are just a few…
- Helicopter Parenting
- Growing Kids God’s Way
- Baby Wise
- Love & Logic
- Authoritative Parenting
- Permissive Parenting
- Lazy Parenting (I don’t recommend this one)
- It Takes A Village
- Be Your Kids Friend Parenting
- I Will Never Spank Parenting Method
- I Swear I Will Never Parent Like My Parents Parenting Style
The harsh reality is that their are too many styles, techniques, philosophy and strategies out their to keep up with them all. So I am thinking that we need to return to OLD SKOOL PARENTING…
- Where kids actually say “yes sir” and “no sir”
- Where kids have chores and don’t expect to get paid, it’s just what they do
- Where kids say “thank you”
- Where kids don’t talk back because they will get lit on fire (whatever “lit on fire” means to you)
- Where families actually have dinner together
- Where dad’s go to their kids games because their family is the priority
- Where families gather, pray and read God’s Word together
- Where families gather around the piano and sing Christmas Carols (ok, maybe not this one)
- Where families actually have family night and the phone is turned off
- Where mom and dad tuck their kids in at night and pray over their kiddos as they are falling asleep (kids are never too old for this)
What “old skool” methods do you think parents should return to?
