Should Parents Play The Secret Game With Their Kids?

Do you know anyone that has wrecked their lives and families by having an affair?

Jodie and I had some friends back in the day and their marriage had been wrecked by an affair, but through love, the grace of God and painful hard work their marriage was restored.

While our friends were going through the hard work of marriage and soul restoration, one of the tools a counselor had given them was a game called…

The “Secret” Game

The idea behind The Secret Game is that your spouse can call secret anytime, and if you have a secret that you are hiding…you must come out with and reveal the secret.

Here are the rules of The Secret Game…

  • You can call “secret” anytime of the day
  • You can call “secret” no matter where you are
  • If your spouse calls secret…you have to share The Final 10

Yeah…I get that both spouses have to be fiercely committed to transparency, but I have personally seen this be great tool to re-build trust and intimacy in marriage.

So the controversial parenting advice for the day is…

PLAY THE SECRET GAME WITH YOUR KIDDOS!!

To play this game you have to be emotionally aware, stable, loving, pure in heart and have some freaking common sense or it can go south fast!

But if parents will take the time create a family culture of transparency, deep unconditional acceptance and irrational love…this tool can be a game that the Spirit of God will use to build trust and intimacy in the parent – child relationship.

What do you think?  Am I smoking crack?

Do you think parents should play The Secret Game with their kids!!?!

I am not sure about playing it with children – after all aren’t we suppose to tell them that secrets are not a good think and they should not have any from us or am I getting the wring end of the game.
