Today is the day that you have been waiting for.

Today is the day your son hugs you in public in front of his pubescent mustache clad friends.

Today is the day that your daughter will make a blinged out “I Love My Mom” sweatshirt and wear it to school.

Today is the day that…I think you get the idea!!

Are you ready for this  #1, BombDiggity, AwesomeSauce Parenting Advice Of All Times…

Lay on your sons’ bed and talk to him!!

Wow!  Did you just hear what I said?  I’m gonna say that one more time…

Lay on your sons’ bed and talk to him!!

I just gotta say that the parenting advice I come up with is just genius.  No other way to say it.

So here’s the story behind this genius, innovative, ridiculous, life changing idea.

This week I was feeling a bit disconnected from my daughter so while she was laying in the floor doing homework I simply went back to her room, laid in her bed for about an hour and we just talked.

We talked about school, friends, sports, what a masculine – cool – hip – dad she has…we just talked about life.

This was the absolute best hour that I have spent with her in months.

This hour was better than the $50 dinner/movie nights, school shopping, Six Flags and our brief visit to Elvis’ house where we stood on our tip toes and looked over the wall because I was too cheap to buy a ticket!!

You should go old skool and give it a shot.

Mosey yonder into your daughter’s room, lay on the bed and just talk to her!

What do you think?  Will you give this a shot tonight?  Leave a comment and let me know.

Great advice. And the cool thing is….now that our kids are grown, they come in and lay on OUR bed and talk to US! My 25 yr old daughter came home from her teaching job last night and plopped on our bed (we have lazyboys in our room that we were sitting in) and talked. I love that.

I do this with my son every night… And it is the best. He is 13, and he will just bring random stuff up to keep me there… Awesome.

God has consistently nudged me to do this with my five little ones and I have struggled being disciplined to do it due to selfishness. After reading this, I went to my calendar on my phone and gave each kid a day of the week with an alert to go off one hour before bedtime. Hope I make it happen next week! Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Last night as I was laying in my teen age son’s bed with him, which I do once in a while, I was thinking, “I need to set my alarm to do this every night so I won’t get sleepy and skip it!” Precious times!

Been doing this for years with my 8 YEAR OLD daughter. Truly awesomesauce. We also do our scripture memory at this time and she loves it. We have talked about treehouses, reproduction, school bullies, favorite foods, regeneration, Legos, math, camping trips, bothersome brothers, money, American Doll, salvation . . . you get the idea. EVERYTHING. Start now if you have little kids and you won’t even have to try when they get older.
